Non, mais franchement, pour toi c'est amusant de corriger quelques
petites fautes en plein message ?
A ta place, si je ne suis pas capable d'éditer un "PO", j'enverrais
(discrètement) la traduction à ceux qui savent faire et directement
dans leur boite émail. (pas dans un mailing)
 
Au moins, Marc a bien fait son geste, et rapidement quand Mr Schmidinger
a demandé la participation à la traduction.

Klaus, perhaps you could consider using
https://www.transifex.com/tour/ as a tool for handling the
translations of VDR; to avoid problems of conflicting updates and
disagreements? It is free for opensource projects and would be low

I haven't had problems with the *.po files so far, so I don't see
any need to invest time in using this tool - and getting dependent on it ;-).

If somebody wants OSD texts to be translated, just send me the
proper *.po file.

Lately, Weblate got some attention too [1]. Though it is especially
useful if the project is developed in a VCS.

Your file looks as if you have already changed it to UTF-8.
If so, you should also change the line

"Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1\n"

accordingly.


Since there is currently quite some turmoil around the fr_FR.po file,
I'll wait until somebody explicitly tells me to adopt a final version
(and nobody else disagrees within 24 hours ;-).

Strange... On my disk it's iso-8859, but the mailing software translates

weird translations.

one of the worst one is definitely "epg scan timeout", it shouldn't
translate to "epg scan length/duration" in french ! :-)

the MANUAL file from vdr source tree should be giving most of the
explanations and contexts.

Hi Syrius,

Sorry if I don't have a perfect French. By "Temps de mise à jour du 
guide (h)", I mean the time before the epg is updated. I agree, a more 
correct version would be "Temps *avant* mise à jour du guide (h)" witch 
is IMHO what this parameter is intended for. The user inactivity part is 
not mentioned in the original message, I don't see why it should be in 
the translation. For a standard user "Inactivité avant rech. EPG (h)" 
mean nothing IMHO. At least, the translation should mention that this is 
the *user* inactivity but even with that, I'm not sure a standard user 
would understand what this parameter is about.

Klaus, ever thought of adding help/descriptions for every menu entries
and a generic button/key (à la F1) to trigger the help OSD ?
It's definitely difficult to provide short translations of short
english technical keywords and sentences.

this planet do understand "exit" in it's sense, or not? So what to say, less
is even more in many cases ...

And to explain specific points, a manual might be better idea instead of
overload VDR with any help fuction, have a look e.g at vdr-wiki.de ...

those are pretty valid points.
i don't use any translation myself, from computer to phone it's all in
English.

I don't rembember who wrote it, but at vdr-wiki.de is an user manual for VDR
in german language, just as an example, not more not less.

Instead of fighting about the right way to translate it, save your energy
for a thing like this.

Each of us should be able to read and understand the others language, happy
birthday Franco-German friendship ... ^^

To end this useless discussion, it's sarcasm too. I can use a lot of 
IMHO myself.  "sorry it's not my fault i'm not perfect" because it's 
easy to criticize *after* someone make some work. Sorry for non French 
reader, but there is a French expression far that (I'm not smiling 
too) : "inspecteur des travaux finis" ! At first, I take your comments 
and make some changes in my translation and try to discuss with you 
about what I disagree. But it seems you take my comments as a personal 
offense and I don't see any offense in my comments (?). Fortunately, 
there are smarter guys there who try to sort things out (Thanks Bernard).

It's not really a rush but the last French translation was quite old 
(2008) and the next stable release of VDR (2.0) is coming soon. You say 
you don't use French so it doesn't matter to you but not to me. My 
intend was to have at least a translation for this release even if it 
was not perfect. Before this, I haven't see anything here about the 
French translation and there was nothing in the dvbkivabien2 forum too.

I'm happy now because with this intervention, I'm sure there will be a 
French translation in the next release, mine or an other, I don't care !
